Alicia Hall Moran, soprano, brings diverse influences and passions together in a rich, quintessentially modern artistic brew. With degrees in music from Barnard College/Columbia University and the Manhattan School of Music, she balances performances in the realms of opera, art song, cabaret and jazz, while consistently finding outlets for her love of literature, composition, and new and challenging music.

Intensive training in the studios of African American classical legends Adele Addison, Hilda Harris, and Betty Allen fostered the unique style and sensibility that first catapulted Alicia to success as a young artist. She was hailed by critics in the leading role in "Marian Anderson, Things of the Heart" at the Bermuda International Arts Festival in 2004. The Royal Gazette wrote, "...it is the portrayal of Anderson herself, played with a haunting stillness and contained passion by Alicia Hall [Moran] that impresses. What was even more impressive was the voice...."

Returning to New York's vital cultural milieu, Alicia Hall Moran received discerning attention. In 2005, she made her cabaret debut at the Café Sabarsky in the Neue Galerie where she returned in 2006 and will return in 2007, setting gems from the songbooks of Kurt Weill and Duke Ellington. She made her New York opera debut in 2006, in the role of Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni under the auspices of the Martina Arroyo Foundation and guidance of longtime mentors, maestro Warren Wilson and the great Shirley Verrett.

Alicia received special mention for her role in CHAPEL/CHAPTER, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company collaboration of winter 2006, yielding what the New York Times called "...the most affecting, the most disturbing, the most powerful and the most compassionate [of the company's dances]....a riveting experience. Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company"

Additional activities include solo recitals for St. Paul's Chapel, The Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University, and the Mystic Seaport Museum, as well as appearances at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) and the Romare Bearden Foundation.

In addition to pursuing these affinities, Alicia shares a close creative partnership with her husband, trailblazing jazz pianist Jason Moran. Her talents for composition and improvisation can be heard on Jason's output for Blue Note Records, notably "The Field" on Same Mother and "Milestone" on his Artist in Residence album. She directed and performed for the landmark commission by the Walker Art Center, the jazz/theater piece, Milestone, featuring the Bandwagon, in Minneapolis and more recently at the Wortham Center for the DaCamera Society in Houston. "Rough Crossings," an innovative performance piece that the couple brought to New York's Symphony Space featuring British historian Simon Schama will have a reprise Fall 2007.
